DALLAS, Tex. — Betty Segel Schpok, 89, of Dallas, Texas, formerly of South Bend, passed away peacefully Jan. 9, 2013.

Born Aug. 24, 1923, in Akron, Ohio, she was the only daughter of Anna and Max Segel.  She had one brother, Morris, of Albuquerque, N.M., who died in 2003.

After graduating from West High School in Akron, Ohio in 1941, she became an executive secretary for the next 10 years.  She was married to Sam Schpok of Dowagiac, Mich., from Feb. 1952 until his death in 2004 and resided in Dowagiac from 1954 until 1987 when she moved to South Bend, Ind.  In 2009, she moved to Dallas, Texas where two of her sons reside.

She was a member of Temple Beth-El and Temple Sisterhood and served on the Sisterhood board as financial secretary for four years.  In 1996, she was voted Woman of the Year by Temple Sisterhood.  She was a life member of Hadassah and life member of Jewish Women International.  She was a loving wife and mother, a blessed grandmother, great-grandmother and a faithful friend.  She is survived by her three sons, Terry (Peggy) of Dallas, Texas, Ricky (Sandy) of South Bend, Ind., and Rodney of Dallas, Texas; four grandchildren, Joshua, Jacob, Hilary and Andrea; and two great-grandchildren, Ira and Ada.

Services will be held at Temple Beth-El, South Bend, Ind., on Jan. 15 at 1:30 p.m. and burial will be at the Hebrew Orthodox Cemetery in Mishawaka.  In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Temple Beth-El Sisterhood or to the Jewish Federation of St. Joseph Valley.
