Dennis G. Solloway Sr., 63, of Cassopolis, died Friday, Nov. 30, 2012, in Lakeland Health Care, St. Joseph.

He was born Oct. 5, 1949, in Niles to James and Kathryn (Krieger) Solloway. He was preceded in death by his father and two brothers, Christian Solloway and James Vincent “Chub” Solloway. He married Joan Louise Szabo in LaGrange, Ind., on Nov. 1, 1969. She survives.

Dennis’ long time nickname was “Stumpy,” short for “stump jumper” a reference to his passion for being a logger. Dennis was a logger all of his life, beginning when he worked with his father. He was a hard worker who would give the shirt off of his back to anybody.

He loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.

Dennis will be greatly missed by family and friends. He is survived by his wife, Joan (Szabo) Solloway, of Cassopolis; one daughter, Sonia (Ahmed) Idyoussef of South Bend, Ind.; three sons, Charles Solloway, of Niles, Dennis (Deborah) Solloway Jr., of Niles, James (Kaylie) Solloway, of Niles; 14 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; his mother, Kathryn Solloway, of Niles; four sisters, Marsha Butrick, of Cassopolis, Charlene Vickers, of Elkhart, Ind., Susan Solloway of Elkhart, Ind., Vickie Berger, of South Bend, Ind.; three brothers, Gary Solloway, of Boise, Idaho, Steven Solloway, of Cassopolis, Rodney (Teresa) Solloway, of Niles.

Family and friends will gather from2 to 4 p.m. and again from 6 to 8 p.m., Monday, Dec. 3, 2012 in Connelly Chapel Wagner Family Funerals, 202 N. Broadway St., Cassopolis. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 4, 2012, at the funeral home with the Rev. Michael McKinnies of ChristTemple, South Bend, officiating. Mr. Solloway will be laid to rest in Mission Hills Memorial Gardens, Sumnerville.
