Irene Elizabeth Van Lue, 87, of Huntly Road in Niles, died at 7:30 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 18, 2012, at Riveridge Manor in Niles following a brief illness.

She was born on July 22, 1925, in Vandalia to Herman and Rieta (Loux) Freese.  She graduated from Niles High School in 1942 and lived here most of her life.

As a young lady, Irene was employed in a local dentist office.  She then was employed by the Niles Community Schools as a secretary at Howard School, retiring in 1986 after serving 27 years.

Irene enjoyed caring for her family, especially cooking, sewing clothing and quilting.

On Sept. 20, 1947, in Niles, she married Loren “Joe” Van Lue with whom she celebrated the 65th anniversary of their wedding this year.

Surviving family includes her husband, Joe Van Lue; their daughters, Susan (and Jim) Cook, of Niles; and twins, Jackie McIntosh and Judy (and Ed) Mullis, both of South Bend, Ind.; a grandson, Andrew (and Julie) Cook; and great-grandchild, Logan Cook.

A private ceremony will be held at the Halbritter Funeral Home in Niles.  Contributions in memory of Irene may be made to Hospice at Home.
