R.L. “Lefty” Brossman, 87

Born: Feb. 12, 1925

Died: Nov. 9, 2012

R. L. “Lefty” Brossman, 87, of Union, died Friday, Nov. 9, 2012, in his residence.  He was born Feb. 12, 1925, in Kalamazoo, to Robert and Florence (Crego) Brossman.

R.L. Brossman

He married Dorothy Smith on April 23, 1946, in Cassopolis. She survives.

He was preceded in death by one brother, Carl Brossman, and two brothers-in-law, Donald Campbell and Donald Fairchild.

Lefty was still talking about farming until the very end. For everything in his life, farming was still the most important thing.

He loved to play euchre and any kind of card game. He had a great long-term memory for sports names and figures and could remember facts about the old Detroit Tigers as well as the new ones. It would take a book to tell everything there is to tell about him.

Lefty will be greatly missed by family and friends. He is survived by: his wife, Dorothy (Smith) Brossman of Union; one son, Dan (Linda) Brossman of Vandalia; two grandchildren, Jennifer (Jose) Brossman-Martinez of South Elgin, Ill., and Andy (Allison) Brossman of Vandalia; two great-grandchildren, Katelynn Kleckner and Alex Brossman; two sisters, Betty Fairchild of Linden and Sue Campbell of Elkhart, Ind.; one sister-in-law, Geri Brossman of Vandalia; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Family and friends gathered from 10 until 11:30 a.m. on Monday in Connelly Chapel Wagner Family Funerals, 202 N. Broadway, Cassopolis, then proceed to Shavehead Cemetery for a noon graveside service with his nephew Ed Smith officiating. Following the interment the family invited everyone to return with them to Pleasant View Church of Christ, 60550 Crooked Creek Road, Cassopolis, for a meal and a time of fellowship.

The family prefers memorial contributions to Heartland Hospice Memorial Fund, 333 N. Summit St., P.O. Box 10086, Toledo, Ohio 43699-0086.
