David Ross Rifenberg 56, passed away unexpectedly of natural causes Sunday, Sept. 30, 2012, at his home in Muskegon.

He was born July 1, 1956, in Grand Rapids.

David was a 1974 graduate of Buchanan High School and served in the Navy for four years. He graduated from Gran Valley State College with a history major. He loved to play his guitar and sing. He was a docent for Hackley house in Muskegon, a job he loved and did well. He was active in several charitable organizations in Michigan.

He leaves behind a daughter, Caitlin Rifenberg, of Niles. Also surviving are his mother, Charlotte (Dodie) Rifenberg of Buchanan; sister, Martha (Max) Irwin, of Ball Ground, Ga.

Preceding him in death were his father, Owen, in 2006, and sister, Charlotte Fisher, in 2011.

Also surviving is his friend and former wife, JoAnne Pitcher, of Sister Lakes.

Visitation will be Thursday, Oct. 4, from 4 to 8 p.m. at Swem Chapel in Buchanan, where a celebration of his life service will be held Friday at 10:30 a.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the First Presbyterian Church, 115 W.
