William Mackling, 76

William A. Mackling, 76, of Edwardsburg, passed to his rest Sunday, July 29, 2012, at his home after an illness.
He was born Jan. 4, 1936, in Continental, Ohio, the son of Alvin and Rosanna (Moran) Mackling. Bill moved to Edwardsburg when he was 5 years old.
Bill graduated from Edwardsburg High School in the Class of 1954 and attended a junior college for a semester to play basketball. He was employed as an electrician for Local IBEW 153 for more than 50 years. Bill loved to hunt and fish and was an avid golfer, belonging to several leagues over the years. He was a member of Edwardsburg St. Peter’s Masonic Lodge and the Edwardsburg Fire Department.
Bill was married June 9, 1956, in Edwardsburg to JoAnn Bethwith. They always lived in “downtown Edwardsburg,” and in 1962, they finished building their own home, where they reared three children. They are Greg Mackling, Nancy (companion Brian Madison) Fantetti and Scott (Barb) Mackling, all of Edwardsburg. There are seven grandchildren: Michael Fantetti, Andrew Madison, Elise Mackling, Jennifer Mackling, Thomas Mackling, Brittany Madison and Brian Madison Jr., and nieces and nephews.
Family who preceded Bill in death are his parents; sisters, Eileen Babcock and Betty Brooks; and brothers, Donald Mackling and Richard Mackling.
Friends and family gathered from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Paul E. Mayhew Funeral Home, 26863 W. Main St. (U.S. Highway 12), Edwardsburg. The Service of Remembrance is Thursday, Aug. 2, at Edwardsburg Presbyterian Church, 68961 Lake St., Edwardsburg. Officiating will be the Rev. Scott Scheel, pastor. Burial will follow at Edwardsburg Cemetery.
Family and friends may gather at the church Thursday from 10 to 11 a.m. before the service.
