The senior class for the Niles boys basketball team have most definitely left a lasting impression on the program.

The six seniors that wrapped their careers Monday night with an appearance in the Class A Regional, helped the Vikings to their first district championship in a decade and their first Class A title since 1987.

Myles Busby, Matthew McLaughlin, Austin Parks, Logan Harpenau, Taylor Campbell and Quintin Irby all played their parts of the last three or four years.

The group also helped Niles win a Big 16 Conference West Division title.

Over the past three seasons, the Vikings have a 52-17 record, including a 19-5 record this year.

“These seniors have left their mark at Niles High School,” Vikings coach Todd Pawielski said. “We’re going to miss them tremendously. They’ve all had wonderful careers.”

The basketball program would be remiss if it did not give credit to the community and the school for their support.

The Niles Nightmare proved to be a force at both home and away games. The Viking student section often had more than 100 participants. The group formed themes throughout the season and were loud and proud.

“I’d also like to give a lot of thanks, too, for our community coming out and supporting us.”
