Louis S. Corwin, 80, of Dowagiac, passed away at 10 a.m. on Thursday, May 12, 2011, at Lakeland Regional Continuing Care in St. Joseph.

Louis was born on Jan. 15, 1931, in Dowagiac, to the late Dean and Beulah (Swisher) Corwin.

He married his wife Nancy Barnes on Sept. 20, 1951, in Watervliet.

Louis retired from the Michigan Department of Transportation Dowagiac maintenance garage in 1988.

He was a member of the National Rifle Association.

Louis enjoyed welding, restoring old tractors, hunting and fishing.

Survivors include: his wife, Nancy Corwin; children, Bruce (Sandy) Corwin of Decatur, Dean (Dolly) Corwin, Judy (James) Sweet, Dale Corwin, Scott (Melissa) Corwin; and a brother, Edward Corwin, all of Dowagiac; 14 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.

Louis passed away on Thursday, May 12, 2011, at Lakeland Continuing Care Center in St. Joseph.

He is preceded in death by a son, Gary Corwin, and a daughter-in-law, Linda Corwin.

Family and friends will gather for a graveside service at Hamilton Cemetery on Saturday, May 14, at 10 a.m.
