The Dowagiac wrestling team split a pair of Wolverine Conference matches Wednesday night in Vicksburg.

The Chieftains defeated the host Bulldogs 45-33, but dropped a 36-26 decision to Three Rivers.

“Another 1-1 night,” Dowagiac coach John Green said. “I guess we were fortunate to come out with one win giving up three forfeits each match.”

Against Vicksburg, Green said one of the key matches was Daniel Crandall’s 10-8 decision over Dylan Noel at 135-pounds.

“Daniel was big there,” he said. “It was a hard fought match. That was a huge win for us.”
Also picking up wins for the Chieftains were Jacob Worthington (103), Andrew Roden (119), Ryan Smit (125), Ben Luth (130), Ricky Roach (189), Anthony Nelson (215) and Sinjin Ownby (285).

“That took an extreme effort by our boys,” Green said. “There are beginning to be more decisions and we are earning more late match takedowns.”

In the Three Rivers match, picking up wins for Dowagiac were Roden, Crandall, Kasey Proshwitz (145), Roach, Steven Baylock (215) and Ownby.

Dowagiac will compete in the Quincy Invitational on Saturday.
