Joan’s life began on April 29, 1931, in Chicago, the daughter of Arthur and Ellen (Piper) Myer.

She graduated from Thornton Township High School.

Joan was united in marriage to Robert Stetins on July 1, 1950, in Chicago.

She retired from Interlake (Acme) Steel in Riverdale, Ill., in 1985.

Joan and Robert moved to Michigan in 1986.

She was very active as the financial secretary of Keeler United Methodist Church and served as secretary of Dowagiac Junior Arts Club for many years.

Joan was also the past Worthy Matron of the Order of Eastern Star back in Illinois.

Her greatest joy was her family, which includes: her husband of 60 years, Robert Stetins of Sister Lakes; her children, Pamela (Walter) Hardy, James (Cynthia) Stetins and Gary (Beth) Stetins, all of Illinois; grandchildren, Jeff (Mary) Loper, Tara Loper and James, Matthew, Nicholas, Adam and Ryan Stetins; sister, Florence Murphy; sisters-in-law, Barbara Myer and Lillian Strezeshar; and brother-in-law, George Kennedy.

Joan passed away at her home on Monday, Dec. 20, 2010.

She is preceded in death by: her parents; sister, Alice Kennedy; and brother, Arthur Myer Jr.

Her family will gather with friends on Wednesday from 10 to 11 a.m. at Keeler United Methodist Church, where her funeral service will begin at 11 a.m. led by Pastor Julie Greyerbiehl.
