Scott Eli Irwin Sr., 52, of Oak Street, Niles passed away Sunday, June 6, 2010 at 2 a.m. after an extended illness.

Scott was born May 23, 1958 to Philip and Carol (Weist) Irwin. He graduated in 1976 from Niles High School. On Oct. 22, 1977, he married Charlotte Ashton. That union produced their son, Scott Jr., and on July 1, 1988, Scott and the former Marsha Ayotte were married and blessed with their beautiful daughter, Krista Michele.

Scott worked for Amtrak, AT&T and was an accomplished painter before suffering a debilitating stroke June 24, 2000 while residing in South Carolina. He returned to Niles and loved spending time with his friends and family.

Scott was preceded in death by his mother, Carol Sonnenleiter; stepfather, William Sonnenleiter; and grandparents, Winston and Maxine Irwin and Fred and Frances Weist, all of Niles.

Survivors include his son, Scott (Suzanne Sater) Irwin Jr., of Niles; daughter, Krista (Sidni Eddons) Irwin, of Lawrenceburg, Tenn.; three grandchildren, Alexus, Bryce and Cainen Irwin; father, Phillip Bitely; his dear brother, Gregory (Debra) Irwin, of Grandville; and a niece, Britny, also of Grandville. Also surviving are his uncle, Fritz Weist, of Muskegon; aunt, Jean Henderson, of Galien; cousins, Sheila (Charles) Neuman, of Galien, Marsha Huss and Alex Henderson; his loving ex-wife and caregiver, Charlotte Ashton; his ex-mother-in-law, Betty Ashton; and special friends, Jason Ensign and Roxanne Hunt, all of Niles.

Cremation has taken place and a private memorial will be held at a later date.
