Vikes goes 1-2 at Coloma Invitational

COLOMA – Edwardsburg captured the Coloma Invitational title with a 6-4 win over the host Comets in the title game.

The Eddies reached the finals with a 17-1 win over River Valley and a 10-5 win over Watervliet.

Niles went 1-2 on the day, falling to Coloma 12-11, defeating Lawrence 13-3 and losing to Watervliet 12-2.

In the championship game, Edwardsburg opened up a 3-0 lead after an inning and a half only to have the Comets come back with a pair of runs in the bottom of the second to make it a one-run contest.

Three more runs in the fifth inning extended the Eddies’ lead to 6-2. Coloma scored a run in the bottom of the seventh.

Andrea LaPlace picked up the victory for the Eddies.

Edwardsburg finished with 10 hits, including a double from Deb Burton.

The Eddies scored eight of their 10 runs against Watervliet in the final three innings to advance to the championship game.

Ashley Tackett tossed a five-hitter for Edwardsburg.

The Eddies had 12 hits, including a homerun from Burton and doubles by Allison Koontz and Amelia Breslin.

A six-run first inning set the tone for Edwardsburg in its opener against River Valley.
LaPlace picked up the win.

The Eddies, who also had a seven-run inning against the Mustangs, finished with 13 hits.
Breslin and Victoria Hurst both doubled.

A pair of runs in the bottom of the eighth lifted the Comets over the Vikings in their opening game on Saturday.

Niles finished with 11 hits in the game, including a triple from Brittney Buti and a pair of doubles from Sarah Cramer.

Heather Daniels suffered the loss.

The Vikings scored in each of the sixth innings played against Lawrence.

Buti earned the victory as she tossed a five-hitter.

Niles banged out 16 hits, including two triples from Ashley Evans and a triple by Abby McKeel.

The Vikings also got doubles from Buti and Hannah Porterfield.

Watervliet scored all 12 of its run in the first three innings to knock off Niles.

The Vikings outhit the Panthers 9-5, but three errors helped Watervliet pick up the victory.

Buti had a double and a triple, while Brooke Wilson added a double.

Heather Daniels took the loss.
