BERRIEN SPRINGS – There was plenty of offense, very little defense and not a whole lot of good pitching Monday afternoon as Niles defeated host Berrien Springs 24-13.

The Vikings scored 12 runs in the sixth inning to break open the wild contest, which had Berrien Springs put up nine runs in the second inning after Niles had scored seven runs in the top of the second to take a 9-0 lead.

In the end, the two teams combined for not only 37 runs, but 30 hits.
Of those hits, 10 were for extra bases.

There were six doubles, a triple and three home runs.

Niles got the better of the extra base hits as it had four doubles, including a pair from David Garner, a triple and all three homeruns.

Chris Mangus doubled and homered for the Vikings, while Aaron Davis collected a double and a triple.

Kevin Gross and Matthew McLaughlin had the other two homeruns for the Vikings, who improved to 9-3 with the victory.

Niles is back to work today as it hosts Mattawan in a Big 16 Conference West Division doubleheader.
