Ring Lardner track teams continue early success

Friday night saw the girls from Ring Lardner’s track team sweep Coloma, Lakeshore and Edwardsburg up in Stevensville.

The girls scored 60 points with Lakeshore coming in second with 40, the Eddies had 34 and Coloma 33.

Miranda Bailey placed second in the shot put  while Asia Brookings broke her own record set on Wednesday by jumping 14 feet 6 3/4 inches.

Miranda Baker and Taylor Glenn then “jumped” into the scoring with a first and second in the high jump. Deja Jones added a first and second in the 100- and 70-meter dashes.
Haley Aikey, Alissa Middleton, and Sasha Zidar also chipped in with points for the totals.

Brookings also contributed by particpating on two frist place relay teams along with Greene, Jordan Rank, and  Maggie Hoff.

The boys weren’t as fortunate. They finished third behind Lakeshore and Coloma with only 29 points.

Jamal Hinds and Michael Geiger took firsts in the 100 meter dash and the two mile run respectively.

Kale Pollard took a fourth in the shot put and Cody Ortiz-Leonard took a third in the mile.

Monday brought a new chance to the boys and this time they would not be denied.

Running against Dowagiac, Berrien Springs and New Buffalo the boys scored 86.5 points with Dowagiac coming second with 77.5. Michael Geiger again took first in the 2-mile run this time his friends were right behind him.

Sammy Rodts took second, Ortiz-Leonard fourth and Nick Suckle fifth.

Pollard again took a second in the shot throwing for 38-11.

Jamal Hinds took a first in the long jump with a jump of 17-9 and also led his relay team of Rusty Feeback, Kale Pollard, and Anthony Haynes to wins in the 800- and 400-meter relays.

Haynes also won the 100-meter run and Ethan Stanfill won the 200.

Sean Craig, Ryan Roberts, Rodts, and Geiger also won the 1,600-meter relay with Ortiz-Leonard helping on the 3,200-meter relay.

The girls kept their winning streak alive by scoring 103 points with Dowagiac coming in a distant second with 73.5 points.

Once again the team was led by Greene, Brookings, Rank, and Hoff. Sweeping two relays and taking first in three other events. Kaliah Dos Santos, Taylor Glenn, Kylee Myers, Morgan Richer, Aikey Baker, Hannah Walker and Olivia Jordan also added points with great finishes in their events.

The team will continue with meets at the Niles- Bender Memorial Relays named in honor of long time athletic director and coach Don Bender, who passed away this past year.
