Bridgman, Watervliet to meet in Class C finale

Bridgman and Watervliet will square off Friday night in the Class C District Basketball Tournament finals at Brandywine High School.

The Bees advanced to the finals with a 50-36 win over New Buffalo, while the Panthers defeated River Valley 35-34.

It was all Bridgman in the second half Wednesday night as the Bees outscored the Bison 25-11.

New Buffalo led 16-15 after one and the game was deadlocked at 25-25 at halftime.
Bridgman grabbed a 36-33 lead heading into the fourth quarter and then outscored New Buffalo 14-3 in the final frame.

Michael Kemp led the Bees with 14 points. Conner Magro added 11.

Curtis Brewster led the Bison with seven points.

The Panthers held a one-point scoring differential in the final eight minutes to pull out the victory.

Both teams netted 10 points in the opening quarter, but River Valley held Watervliet to just one point in the second to take a 16-11 halftime lead.

The Panthers bounced back by doubling up the Mustangs, 10-5, in the third quarter to square the game at 21-21 heading into the final frame.

Cory Quinn led the Panthers with 15 points. He was the lone Watervliet player to reach double figures.

Mike Semenlo had 10 points to pace River Valley.

The championship game is scheduled for 7 p.m. on Friday.
