WATERVLIET — Donald’s life began Nov. 19, 1939, in Benton Harbor.

He spent his lifetime in the Dowagiac area, graduating from Dowagiac High School.

He proudly served in country in the U.S. Air Force.

Donald worked as a switchman for GE, which is now Verizon, until he retired in 1993.

Donald’s family includes: a brother, Joe (June A.) Shommer of Dowagiac; a sister, Verlayne (Lloyd) King of Benton Harbor; four nieces and nephews, Robin Schommer, Brian (Julie) Schommer, Christine Martin and Laura (Dave) Knapp; and four great nieces and nephews, Christianna Schommer, Christian Knapp, Matthew Knapp, and Paige Martin.

Donald died Tuesday, July 13, 2010.

His parents, Ralph and Lucille (Gearin) Schommer, precede Donald in death.
Friends may visit with Donald’s family Monday, July 19, from 10 to 11 a.m. at Hutchins Funeral Home in Watervliet, where funeral services will be celebrated following visitation at 11 a.m.

Cremation will follow.

Donald’s cremains will be buried later in Keeler Cemetery.
