Gull Lake blanks Dowagiac soccer team 8-0

RICHLAND – The Dowagiac varsity soccer team trailed by just three goals at halftime against Wolverine Conference powerhouse Gull Lake.

But the Blue Devils scored five goals in the second half, ending the match with just over seven minutes remaining.

Devin Bond, Rachel Bates and Kelsey Holdridge all scored in the opening 40 minutes of play to give the Blue Devils a three-goal advantage.

In the second half, Molly Maddox scored back-to-back goals to extend Gull Lake’s advantage to 5-0.

Bond added her second goal of the match to increase the lead to 6-0 before Holdridge notched her second goal to pull the Blue Devils within one of the mercy rule.

Kelly Casperson scored with 7:01 showing on the clock to end the match.
Dowagiac was outshot by Gull Lake 22-3.

Cassopolis at Edwardsburg
EDWARDSBURG – The Edwardsburg soccer team edged cross-county rival Cassopolis 2-1 in a Lakeland Conference match Monday night.

All three goals were scored in the opening half.

Ashlyn Chambers put the Eddies on top first with a goal in the 28th minute.

Bjargey Olafsson tied the score for the Rangers with a goal eight minutes later.

Nicole Brady had the the winning goal for the Eddies in the 37th minute.
