COMSTOCK – The Dowagiac wrestling team split a pair of Wolverine Conference matches on Wednesday at the Comstock Quad.

The Chieftains opened up the night with a 61-18 victory over the host Colts, but were defeated by Gull Lake 51-27.

Picking up two wins on the night for Dowagiac were Ryan Smit (125), Ben Luth (130), Kasey Proshwitz (145), Ricky Roach (189) and Sinjin Ownby (285).

Ownby’s 8-0 victory over Blake Sapp avenged an earlier loss to the Comstock heavyweight.

“That was a nice win for Sinjin,” Dowagiac coach John Green said.

Earning one victory on the night for the Chieftains were Jacob Worthington (103), Tyler Cross (112), Andrew Roden (119), Daniel Crandall (135), Logan Pellow (152) and Steven Baylock (215).

Dowagiac will be off this weekend as it hosts the annual middle school tournament.
