Edwardsburg High School’s Ethan Zimmerman will continue his football and baseball career next season at Hope College in Holland.

He has been awarded the Distinguished Scholar Scholarship and graduated in the top 10 percent of his class of 185 students.

Zimmerman (6-foot, 185-pounds) led the Eddies’ football program as varsity quarterback to their first district and regional championships and state semifinals appearance during the 2010 season and also led the Eddies to their first undefeated season in 53 years last fall.

Zimmerman was named Scholar-Athlete of the Week and second team All-Lakeland Conference this past season.

Zimmerman also has led the Eddies’ baseball program to back-to-back Lakeland Conference Championships the past two seasons as the starting varsity shortstop. Last season, Zimmerman was named to the first team All-Lakeland Conference, Division 2 All-District, All-Region and All-Academic teams.

He is a captain for the baseball team where he is a three-year varsity letter winner.  He also was a three-year varsity letter winner in basketball.  Zimmerman will be joining his brother, Evan, on the Hope College baseball team.

The Hope College football program finished second in the MIAA (Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association) last season along with a second-place finish for the Hope College baseball team this spring.

Hope College has won the Commissioner’s Cup for 12 consecutive years, which is an award given to the MIAA-member college that has the best cumulative performance in the league’s 18 sports for men and women.
