Cassopolis – Mike Hiemstra, 75, of Shore Acres Rd. went to be with his Lord, in the presence of his loving wife, after continued complications from heart issues.

At the age of 20 Mike was drafted into the Army and served in the Vietnam War. He later joined the Navy and then into the private sector working at National Copper in Dowagiac, MI. Upon his retirement Mike embarked on his most beloved role of all, Grandpa.

For 20 years he worked to perfect his passion for being the greatest Grandpa he could be.

Born July 21, 1948, in Dowagiac, MI to Raymond and Ann Hiemstra, Mike twice married the love of his life, Char Rerick, spending 32 years of bliss with his first and last wife. Mike was preceded in death by his parents as well as five brothers and sister-in-law Katha Hartsell. Mike is survived by his brother Pete (Sharon) Hiemstra of Radcliff, KY, sister-in-law Shirley Hiemstra of Colorado Springs, CO, his beloved wife Charlene Hiemstra, “My Boys” Grandsons Cacy May, Kenneth May and Arden May, his stepchildren Zachary and Carey May-Fox, his brother-in-law Bruce Rerick of Clearwater, FL and Larry Hartsell also of Cassopolis. Mike also had many loved nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews throughout his family.

A celebration of Mike will be Saturday, April 13^, at his church of membership, Cassopolis United Methodist Church, where he had long served as treasurer. Visitation will start at 3 p.m., with services at 4 p.m., and fellowship dinner immediately after. Memorial Contributions may be sent to the Cassopolis United Methodist Church in his honor.
