Rosemary J. Sprague, 95, a lifelong resident of Dowagiac, passed away Thursday morning, March 21, 2024, at Corewell Health Niles Hospital in Niles, Michigan.
She was born on June 18, 1928, in Dowagiac, the daughter of William and Hazel (Moore) Trowbridge. Rosemary was a 1946 graduate of Dowagiac High School. She continued her education and earned her bachelor’s degree in Music Education from the University of Michigan in 1950. On June 30, 1950, Rosemary was united in marriage to Robert D. Sprague. She taught music in six rural schools before the schools were annexed into the Dowagiac school system. Rosemary also taught private piano lessons at her home for several years. She was a long-time member of Silver Creek United Methodist church where she served for over 70 years as pianist and organist. She enjoyed horses, gardening and loved her centennial farm.
Surviving are three children — William (Debbie) Sprague, Sarah Sprague and Andrew (Tami) Sprague; son-in-law: Feza Akcasu; seven grandchildren — Andrea Sprague, Matthew (Stacey) Sprague, Christen (Joseph) Hollenbach, Bryan (Laura) Akcasu, Audrey (Josh) Akcasu, Brandon Sprague and Amanda Sprague; and nine great-grandchildren — Gabriel, Samuel, Alianna, Grace, Kaylee, Joey, Jacob, Pierre and Rebecca.
Preceding her in death were her husband — Bob Sprague; daughter — Rebecca Akcasu; and brother — William Trowbridge (as an infant).
A service to celebrate Rosemary’s life will be held at 1 p.m., on Saturday, March 30, Silver Creek United Methodist Church, 31994 Middle Crossing Rd, Dowagiac. Pastor Sara Carlson will officiate. Private inurnment will be in Dewey Lake Cemetery, Dowagiac. Memorial contributions may be directed to Silver Creek United Methodist Church.
