Leman cruises to victory in Eddies’ home opener

EDWARDSBURG — Jack Leman cruised to an easy victory as Edwardsburg hosted Vicksburg in its cross country opener Tuesday.

Leman, who was sidelined earlier this year with mono and then shin splints, easily outdistanced runner-up Jacob Malocha of Vicksburg as he ran a 17:21 on a warm and humid afternoon at the Edwardsburg Sports Complex.

Malocha ran an 18:38.

The Bulldogs defeated the Eddies 20-41 in the Wolverine Conference meet.

Vicksburg also won the girls portion of the meet, defeating Edwardsburg 16-44.

Sawyer Barton led the Bulldogs with a first-place finish and a time of 22:41. Vicksburg grabbed seven of the top 10 finishers in the meet.

Anna Cleveland led the Eddies with a fifth-place finish and a time of 24:54. Dacey Divane finished eighth (26:37) and Lili Szalai ninth (27:15).

 

Dowagiac at Sturgis

STURGIS — The visiting Chieftains grabbed the top two finishers in the boys race, but still fell to Sturgis 25-36.

Shawn Little ran a 16:43 to pick up the win, while Cole Parker was second with a 17:24.

The Trojans had the next eight finishers out of the top 10.

The Chieftains did not field a girls team and lost to Sturgis 15-50.
