DOWAGIAC — For one half, the Dowagiac soccer team looked primed for a Division 3 district upset of visiting Paw Paw.

Unfortunately, the visitors had other ideas in the final 40 minutes of play.

Paw Paw scored five unanswered goals to shutout the Chieftain 5-0 and advance to Friday’s Division 3 district championship match against Coloma at Dowagiac. Play is scheduled to begin at 5 p.m.

The Comets blanked Buchanan 8-0 in their semifinal Tuesday.

“I thought the girls did an outstanding job,” said Dowagiac coach Chad Davis. “We faced a very tough team in Paw Paw. We did the best job we could. We marked their main threat and held her in check for most of the game. We fell asleep for about seven or eight minutes in the second half and it cost us. “But the effort was there tonight. I’m proud of the way the girls played the season. We’ve come a long way.”

Dowagiac finished with 11 shots against Paw Paw.

Goalkeeper Jenna Davis stopped 21 shots.

Division 2
