Roundtree “Sylvester” Palmer, of Arkansas

Roundtree “Sylvester” Palmer, 94, better known as “Syl,” was born June 15, 1924, in Little Rock, Arkansas, to the union of Haskin and Lillie Palmer.

Roundtree passed away March 31, 2019, at Westwood Nursing Home in Niles, surrounded with love, and family by his side.

Roundtree moved from Little Rock, Arkansas to Niles and united with Versie Gregory. To this union, seven children were born. Roundtree was formerly employed by Auto Specialities Manufacturing of St. Joseph.

Roundtree loved family gatherings, and he loved to entertain everyone around him with his favorite punch lines. He loved to bring joy to others through laughter, so he would keep everyone laughing with his jokes and humorous conversations. He was a member of Bethlehem House of Bread where he served as Chief Usher of the Usher Board for more than 30 years. Roundtree was a faithful member until his health failed.

Palmer, of San Jacinto, California; Jerry Lee Palmer, of Ports Mouth, Virginia, Larry B. Palmer, of Grand Rapids, Danny Steven (Rose) Palmer and Priscilla Palmer, both of South Bend, Vernon L.C. (Nanette) Palmer, of Benton Harbor; 17 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends; one brother Eugene (Bert) Palmer, of Los Angeles, California; two sisters, Iola Tramble and Izola Reynolds, of Elkhart, his nephew Bruce Smith was dear to his heart because he would visit him frequently at Westwood Nursing Home, they would spend lots of time laughing, talking, and joking with each other.

He was proceeded in death by his son, Carl Leroy Palmer; three brothers James, Haskin Jr., and Herbert Palmer; four sisters, Cleola Palmer, Leola Rixter, Ardessie Foster, and Magnolia Murphy.

Funeral services to honor Roundtree’s life will take place at 1 p.m. Saturday, April 6, 2019, at Christian Life Center, 1717 N. Hickory Road, South Bend, with a time of visitation beginning one hour prior.
