Maxine Jean Edwards, 72, of Dowagiac, passed away, Tuesday, Jan. 1, 2019, at Hanson Hospice in Stevensville.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held 3 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 10, 2019, at Clark Chapel, 405 Center St., Dowagiac, with Pastor Bryant Bacon officiating. Friends may visit with the family Thursday from 2 p.m. until the time of service at the funeral home. Memorial contributions in Maxine’s name may be made St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital or the Cass County Humane Society. Those wishing to leave an online condolence may do so at www.clarkch.com.

Maxine Jean Edwards

Maxine was born Feb. 25, 1946, in Dowagiac to Irving and Annabelle (Gilliam) Boyd. The first born of twin girls; though preceded in death early in life by her twin Josephine, she cherished their bond always. At the age of 17 she married Lyle Nichols Jr. and from that union she had two sons Lyle and James. On May 21, 1983, she was remarried to Loyal “David” Edwards. Maxine worked for Sundstrand for 20 years and then Du-Wells for over 5 years before retirement. She was known for her generosity, friendliness and having a great sense of humor. In her spare time, she enjoyed watching football, playing cards, backgammon, crocheting and puzzles. Maxine also had a love for animals, especially her dog JJ and cat Lexis. Most of all she loved being with her family and friends. She will be missed by all who knew her big friendly greetings and smiles, which made everyone feel loved and at home.

Maxine is survived by her mother, Annabelle Boyd; children, Lyle (Junie and Robin) Nichols III, James Nichols, Chantilla Boateng and Elizabeth Edwards; grandchildren, Latasha Ivens, Mikila (Gary) Taylor, Melanie Nichols, Aliyah Edwards, Jason Boateng, William Edwards and Christopher Edwards. 13 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; siblings Ernestine Wares, James (Dana) Boyd and Bruce (Peggy) Boyd and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family that she nicknamed and loved greatly.

She was preceded in death by her father, Irving Boyd; husband, David Edwards; twin sister, Josephine Boyd and brother Jack Boyd.
