Susan Kay Hutchings, 63, of Cassopolis, died Monday, Nov. 26, 2018, in the comfort of her family’s presence.

She was born April 18, 1955, in Niles, the seventh of 17 children born to Loyd and Doris “Alyene” Parsons. She married her husband of 35 years, David Hutchings in Cassopolis on March 11, 1983. He survives.

Susan was the family matriarch, historian, and humanitarian. She was the epitome of a caregiver to anyone and everyone. She enjoyed taking in any animal that needed her. She was an avid baker, crafter, gardener, and just enjoyed working with her hands. She canned everything and was even able to do this for others. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother.

Susan will be greatly missed by family and friends. She is survived by husband, David Hutchings, of Cassopolis; daughter, Amie (Justin) Anderson, of Cassopolis; son, Scott Coplen, of San Antonio, Texas; stepson, Jason (Tammy) Hutchings, of Lawton; grandchildren, Lauren, Sydney, and Gavin, Jaycin (Kyia) Hutchings, of Three Rivers, Jeremy (Katelyn) Hutchings, of Lawton, Abby, Jessalyn Fields, of Niles, Samantha Gillespie, of Niles; great-grandchildren, Mason, Adelaide, Karlie, and Khloie; sisters, Phyllis (Leland) Garber, of St. Paris, Ohio, Cheryl Parsons, of Cassopolis, Beverly (Tom) Harris, of Cassopolis, Linda (Charles) Francis, of Brookhaven, Mississippi, Cathy Eberhardt, of Cassopolis, Mary (Jeffrey) Snyder, of White Pigeon, Beth (Steve) Lee, of Cassopolis, Pam (James) Young, of North Port, Florida; brothers, Steve Parsons, of Cassopolis, Dan Parsons, of South Bend, Indiana, Doug (Amy) Parsons, of Cassopolis, Matthew Parsons, of Dowagiac, Mark (Betsy) Parsons, of Cassopolis, Mike Parsons, of Osceola, Indiana, Pat Parsons, of Bloomington, Indiana; and a host of nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Martha Rice; one stepson, Trent Hutchings; and one sister-in-law, Janet Parsons.

Family and friends will gather Saturday, Dec. 1, 2018, from 10 a.m. until service at noon, in Connelly Chapel Wagner Family Funerals, 202 North Broadway Street, Cassopolis.

Mrs. Hutchings will be laid to rest in Mission Hills Memorial Gardens, 61455 M-51 North, Niles, Michigan 49120.
