Phyllis N. Malone, 73, of Elkhart, formerly of Edwardsburg, passed to her rest May 16, 2018, at the Center for Hospice Care, Elkhart, after a brief illness. She and her husband were the owners of Malone’s Root Beer Junction, a drive-in restaurant.

She was born Dec. 17, 1944, in Jonesboro, Arkansas, the daughter of Jesse and Elsie (Carpenter) Taylor and has lived here since 1957. She was a former “Miss Edwardsburg” in 1962.

Phyllis was married April 20, 1963, at Fort Hood, Texas, to Earl G. “Skip” Malone. Skip was in the U.S. Army at the time. Skip passed June 6, 1996.

Surviving are two sons, Jeffrey (Dawn) Malone, of Fillmore, Indiana, and Michael J. Malone, of South Bend; four grandchildren, Rhiannon, Jordon, Jessie and Matthew; five great-grandchildren; and a sister, F. Jane Bowers of Fishers, Indiana.

Family who preceded her in passing are her parents, her beloved husband, Skip, and her brother, Homer Taylor.

Cremation has taken place. Family and friends may gather from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday, May 26, 2018, at Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church, 24832 US-12 East, Edwardsburg. The Memorial Service of Christian Burial will follow at 11 a.m. Saturday in the church with Father Bob Flickinger officiating. Inurnment will be at Adamsville Cemetery on the family grave lot. Phyllis was of the Catholic Faith and enjoyed attending her church.
