James R. Uebler, 80, of Niles, passed away in his home on May 17, 2018.
He was born April 13, 1938, in Michigan City, Indiana, to the late Norman and Ethel “Toots”(Hurbert) Uebler.
On Oct. 14, 1961, at St. Mark’s Catholic Church in Gary, Indiana, he married Rosemary Haberkorn, who passed away on June 6, 2011.

He is also preceded by his brothers; Donald and Lee, and sisters Jeannette Szymkowski and Bonnie Rodriguez. James is survived by his children, Jamie (Bryan) vanReesema of Virginia Beach, Virginia, Jeff (Kathy) Uebler of South Bend, Heidi (Andrew) Seitz of Raleigh, North Carolina, grandchildren; Lauren vanReesema, Willem vanReesema, Anna Uebler, Kate Uebler, Lucas Seitz, Zach Seitz, sisters; Maxine Swartz and Elenore Nelson.
James had a long and distinguished career with the Michigan State Police and was a Detective until his retirement.
He was a member of St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception Church in Niles. For many years, James was the president of the Babe Ruth Baseball league. He also enjoyed golfing.
