I read the article about LimeBikes. Here are a few thoughts.

My experience in South Bend with this company has been bad. They deliberately stage their products on my private property, then leave them for days even after being contacted to retrieve them. Most recently it was four days and two calls to get their products off my property. An alarm actually sounds with threats of calling the police if one tries to move the bike. Additionally, this company leaves the bikes in high traffic areas of the public paths and sidewalks causing bottlenecks and inconvenience for local citizens. In South Bend, many bikes were broken and abandoned for the entire winter.

I find them an ugly nuisance and wish they would go away.
