Marshall Edward Redmond, of Cassopolis

Sept. 13, 1928 — Feb. 10, 2018

Marshall Edward Redmond, 89, of Cassopolis, died peacefully early Saturday morning, Feb. 10, 2018, in the comfort of his family’s presence in Bronson Methodist Hospital in Kalamazoo.

He was born Sept. 13, 1928, in Chicago, the older of two sons born to William and Celester Mae (Hoard) Redmond. He married Olga Frances Eagan on Flag Day, June 14, 1952, in Saint James Catholic Church in Chicago, Illinois. She preceded him in death Feb. 17, 2015, after almost 63 years of marriage. He was also preceded in death by his parents and his wife’s nephews, Shawn Eagan and Orrin Brock.

Marshall Edward Redmond

Marshall was a graduate of DuSable High School in Chicago and a member of its swim team, the Seahorses. He was also a life guard at Chicago’s 31st Street Beach. Marshall served honorably in the medical corps in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict and was discharged with the rank of Corporal. He attended Illinois Institute of Technology and Loyola University in Chicago. In addition, he worked as a lab technician, instructor and a hospital administrator for over thirty years at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Chicago. Marshall and his wife retired to their Cass County, Michigan farm and orchard in 1991. During retirement, he was president of the local chapter of the National Active and Retired Federal Employee Associations, and volunteered with the Cass County Council on Again, serving as a safety officer. He was also active in his church, Saint Ann, and was a warden and trustee in the Knights of Columbus.

Marshall will be greatly missed by family and friends. He leaves to mourn his passing and continue his legacy his beloved daughter, Phoebe V. Redmond, Esquire, and son in law, Herbert Rawlings Jr. of Las Vegas, Nevada; two grandsons, Herbert Rawlings III, and Marshall Rawlings, both of Las Vegas, Nevada; one brother, Aaron “Gene” Redmond of Chicago, Illinois; four nieces, Celeste Redmond-Smith, Esquire, of New York, Charisse (Emile) Spearman of Chicago, Erin Cheryl Redmond (Steven) Smith of California, Erica Redmond of Chicago; his deceased wife’s nieces, Mylah Deliford of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, Natasha and husband Scott Skinner of Jackson, Florida, Kylah Eagan of Chicago, Illinois; her nephews, Charles (Jeanette) Eagan III of Raymore, Missouri, Kevin (Patricia) Eagan of Fairville Heights, Illinois; and a host of grandnieces, grandnephews, and cousins.

Family and friends will gather for a Memorial Mass on a date and at a time to be announced in Saint Ann Catholic Church, 421 North Broadway Street, Cassopolis, Michigan, where he will be accorded full Military Honors. Marshall’s and Olga’s remains will be laid to rest together in Saint James Parish, Louisiana.

The family prefers contributions in Marshall’s memory to Cass County Council on Aging, Post Office Box 5, Cassopolis, Michigan 49031.
