For more than a year now, I have noticed our beautiful old clock on Main Street in Niles has not been in working order.

I’ve been told it needs complete repairing, and it’s quite apparent to anyone traveling through our lovely town that it is in need of painting, also.

I have talked to a city council member about this, and was told that parts were ordered about nine months ago, but nothing since has been done. It didn’t sound like it would involve and exorbitant amount of money, so I am curious as to why the clock is still not working and not painted.

Smaller nearby towns, such as Baroda, Buchanan and New Buffalo to name just a few, have proudly kept their clocks in the middle of their towns in working order.

Can Niles not show the same pride in our town and do the same?
