A raw deal for state insurance

I was under the impression the state insurance commissioner was to look after us Michiganders.

My wife and I are 82 years old, and we purchased long term care insurance 20 years ago.

Our premiums have increased 132 percent. It would have been higher but we reduced the benefits the first increase.

Every time the policies are taken over by a new company, they raise our premiums and the insurance commissioner rubber stamps the increase.

I called each time and they said the increases were justified. I understand the actuaries understating the cost. but we should not be responsible for covering all their mistakes. The insurance commissioner is not looking out for us.

I called my state senator, John Proos, but I got no response.
