A 22-year-old Cassopolis man was killed in a two-car crash on US-12 at Tharp Road in Mason Township Friday afternoon.

David Michael Steven was pronounced dead at the scene from injuries sustained in the crash according to the Cass County Sheriff’s Office.

The crash accorded at approximately 2:07 p.m.

Deputies responded to the scene to find that a north bound truck on Tharp Lake Road failed to stop as required and struck a westbound car on US-12.

The driver of the truck was ejected during the crash and was transported by Med Flight to South Bend Memorial.

The driver of the truck involved in crash will be identified once family has been contacted. His name is being withheld pending family notification.

The Cass County Sheriff’s Office was assisted on the scene by the Edwardsburg Police Department, SESPA Fire and Ambulance and the Michigan Department of Transportation.
It is unknown at this time if safety belts or alcohol were a factor in the crash. The crash remains under investigation and updates will follow as information becomes available.
