Buchanan car cruise to be hosted Saturday before Buckteen reunion

The Buchanan Chamber of Commerce has decided to heed the request by many businesses and citizens to bring back its popular annual car cruise-in that takes over the streets of the downtown area.

The Buchanan Cruise-In will take place from 2 to 7 p.m. June 10, in downtown Buchanan.

After taking a couple years off from this event, the decision was made to bring it back in a slightly different format.

For almost 20 years Buchanan past graduates come back to town on the second weekend of June to re-connect with classmates, friends and family called the “Buckteen Reunion.” Those wishing to attend must be 40 years or more post graduation to attend the reunion event on Sunday of this weekend.

For years, the Buckteen Reunion  has attracted hundreds of graduates back for this weekend.

The reunion will take place at 10:30 a.m. Sunday at the Buchanan Auxiliary Gym.

The Board of Directors for the Buchanan Area Chamber of Commerce decided to bring back the cruise-in on the same weekend as the Buckteen Reunion, moving it from the Harvest Festival in the fall.

Buchanan Area Chamber of Commerce President Jerry Flenar believes the two events coincide perfectly.

“We think this event is a perfect fit for this weekend in lieu of having all of our alumni back for the Buckteen Reunion,” Flenar said. “We will be closing the downtown main streets and parking classic cars on the streets for the afternoon.”

Live entertainment and a disc jockey will entertain during the entire event, and the Buchanan District Library will host an event in its lobby that will have school historical artifacts and materials from the History Room located on the second floor of the library.
