Maxine H. Downey, 91, of Dowagiac, passed away, Thursday, May 18, 2017, at her home.

A celebration of life service will be hosted at 11 a.m. Monday, May 22, 2017, at Clark Chapel, 405 Center St., Dowagiac.

Maxine was born March 29, 1926, in Dowagiac, to Floyd O. and Evelyn (Gawthrop) Stahr.

She graduated from Dowagiac Central High in 1944.

Maxine married John L. Downey on June 22, 1945, in Dowagiac.

Maxine is survived by her sons, Andrew (Sally) Downey of Grand Rapids and John Scott (Denise) Downey of Phoenix; daughter Marie (Gordon) Landon of Pine Ridge, Florida; seven grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and a sister, Dixie Stahr of Terre Haute, Indiana.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, John.
