Patricia “Patty” Purdy, a beacon of gentle kindness whose smile illuminated the lives of those around her, passed away peacefully on September 12, 2024, in her hometown of Niles, MI, at the age of 74. Born on August 8, 1950, to the late John and Marie Purdy, Patty was a lifelong resident of Niles, where her warm presence became a familiar comfort to her community.
Patty, attended Michigan State University and carried the Spartan spirit throughout her life, demonstrating the same resilience and camaraderie in her personal endeavors. She dedicated many years of service to the hospitality industry, where her radiant smile was the first welcome many received.
In her personal life, Patty’s passions were a reflection of her tender nature. An avid bird watcher, she found joy in the simple pleasure of feeding the winged visitors that frequented her garden.
Her love for animals was expansive, but it was her cats that held a special place in her heart, each one cherished and adored as a member of her family.
Patty’s artistic talents were as diverse as they were impressive. With nimble fingers, and inspiration from social media, she created beautiful works of cross-stitch, crocheting, and various handcrafts that she lovingly shared with friends and family. Patty treasured each opportunity to make people feel like they mattered, due to her caring and positive mentality, which was especially present during the Christmas season towards her cousin’s George and Patty’s family.
A gentle, loyal, kind, and artistic soul, Patty is survived by her brother, James Purdy, and his wife, Cheryl, who remember her as a kind-hearted sister with a generous spirit. Patty’s legacy is one of compassion, a quality that she effortlessly weaved into the tapestry of her life, leaving behind memories etched with her soft-spoken grace. Family was a cornerstone of Patty’s life, and she would always make sure everyone was remembered, especially during the holidays.
The absence of Patty’s gentle presence will be deeply felt by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
Her life was a testament to the quiet strength that lies in kindness, and her memory will be cherished as a reminder of the beauty that can be found in life’s simplest pleasures.
