The Ross Beatty Jr./Sr. High School Jobs for Michigan’s Graduates team had a big day at the eighth annual Career Development Conference last month.
The Rangers brought home three trophies, including a first place, at the state-wide event.
At the conference students compete with other JMG programs from throughout the state on the employability skills they have been working on this last school year.
Cassopolis’ Madeline Collins took first-place in public speaking, while the Rangers also finished second in product marketing and target the market.
“This is Madeline’s first year in JMG and this was her first CDC. She has stated that her experience in her Ross Beatty public speaking class helped to build confidence in her skills and JMG helped to refine her speech. “Her speech was a general introduction into the agricultural industry in southwest Michigan and some of the region specific struggles the industry will be facing in the future.”
Collins gave a speech on Michigan’s agricultural industry.
In product marketing, the team was given a product and then 20 minutes to prepare a five-minute marketing campaign for that product.
In target the market, the team had to create in advance a five-minute presentation on issues Michigan’s high-demand manufacturing industry is facing.
