Five Dowagiac residents are in police custody on suspicions of drug possession following a round of inspection by officers with the Cass County Drug Enforcement Team and Michigan Department of Corrections late last week, according to the Cass County Sheriff’s Office.

Detectives with the drug team joined parole/probation officers with the corrections department for the series of random home checks, which took place Thursday and Friday. Individuals who were currently serving on parole or probation occupied the residences that police selected to search.

The first home check occurred at the 100 block of Willard Street in the city of Dowagiac. Police arrested a 55-year-old man on suspicions of possession of marijuana and violating parole.

The second was at a residence in the 300 block of Oak Street. Officers apprehended a 23-year-old man following that search, detaining him on the same charges as the first suspect.

Police searched another Oak Street residence later that day, in the 400 block, where they arrested a 26-year-old woman on suspicions of possession of marijuana and a 32-year-old man on suspicions of violating parole.

The fourth and final search took place at a residence on the 300 block of East Division Street. Police uncovered evidence of methamphetamine and alcohol use at the home, and, following further investigation, arrested a 38-year-old man on suspicions of methamphetamine possession and violating parole Friday.

All five suspects were lodged at Cass County Jail. Authorities are withholding their names, pending arraignment.
