The Quality Inn and Suites, located at 1265 S. 11th St. in Niles was evacuated on Saturday morning, after high elevations of carbon monoxide were detected, according to Niles Police Department Sgt. Scott Swanson.

At least seven reported victims who were near the swimming pool on the first floor were said to have been having difficulties breathing. The victims were taken by ambulance to Memorial and Lakeland Hospitals.

“I do know that there were elevated carbon monoxide levels but as far as if that is what caused it we have not confirmed that yet,” Swanson said.

Swanson said authorities set off the fire alarms to evacuate the entire building.
