County accepting applications for road commissioner

CASS COUNTY — The Cass County Board of Commissioners is seeking candidates for an appointment to the Cass County Road Commission.

The five-member road commission meets twice a month, oversees the operations of the road commission and adopts an annual budget for the maintenance and construction of county roads. A biennial primary and local road program is also developed, based on long-range plans to be sure all roads are in reasonable repair, safe and convenient for public travel.

Interested candidates must complete an application form that is available at www.casscountymi.org under “Forms/Documents/Fees” or at the Cass County administrator’s office, located in Cass County Building at 120 N. Broadway, Suite 116, Cassopolis. The office is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Applications are due into the administrator’s office by Oct. 3 and interviews for selected applicants will be held on Oct. 20. The new road commissioner will be appointed effective Jan. 1, 2016 for a six-year term.

Pay is $4,400 per year.

Those with questions should contact the Cass County Administrator’s Office at (269) 445-4420 or e-mail jackiet@cassco.org.

Headquarter hours will be 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Friday and 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Saturdays.

Beckwith presents ‘Bleacher Bums’

DOWAGIAC — The Beckwith Theatre will present “Bleacher Bums,” a comedy conceived by Joe Mantegna and written by The Organic Theatre Company.

Beckwith will stage the play from Sept. 30-Oct. 2 and Oct. 7-9 at its playhouse at 100 New York Ave. in Dowagiac. The show starts at 7:30 p.m. on Friday and Saturdays and 2 p.m. Sundays.

In the bleachers of Chicago’s Wrigley Field, an eclectic group of die-hard Cub fans — including a rabid cheerleader, a blind man who follows the game by transistor radio and does his own play by play, a bathing beauty, a nerd and various other bleacher denizens — root for their team. As the game proceeds, they bet among themselves on every conceivable event, go out for frosty malts or beers, try to pick up the bathing beauty and, occasionally, watch the game.

Tickets cost $10, and are purchased at the box office the time of the performance. People can call (269) 782-7653 to make reservations.

The show is sponsored by Oil Can Alley and Starks Funeral Home. An opening night wine reception is sponsored by Vineyard 2121, of Benton Harbor.
