Morrow wins first, 10th Cat Tracks

Matthew Morrow won the inaugural Cat Tracks 5K in 2006 and he won the 10th anniversary race at Brandywine High School Saturday.
A total of 74 runners and 28 walkers competed in wet and humid conditions Saturday morning.
Morrow, from Niles, ran a 19:51 and was almost a full minute ahead of runner-up James Harrell, who ran a 20:12.
Morrow, who has run in all the Cat Tracks, celebrated his second win after the race.
“It was wet,” he said of the course. “The swamp had some water in there. I got out front and just held it there. I won the first one and that was my best time. I hope I don’t have to wait every 10 years to win.”
Jennifer Swank-Day was also well ahead of the second place finish in the women’s race.
Swank-Day, of Otsego, posted a time of 22:41, which earned her sixth place overall. Michele Carey was two places behind her overall with a time of 23:31.
“I am running here today with my brother, his wife and my nieces,” she said. “I love this course. This is my fourth or fifth year running it.”
Swank-Day is a graduate of Brandywine High School, but did not run track or cross country.
“I did not know the course the first time around,” she said. “It wasn’t that bad out there. It rained, but it was dry before so it wasn’t that muddy. The swamp wasn’t too bad.”
Swank-Day was the defending champion of the women’s division. She ran a time of 21:27.
Jacob Rydwelski was the overall male 5K walk finisher with a time of 31:18.
Terry Fye was second with a 41:08.
In the women’s 5K walk, Judith Burger was the winner with a 41:43. Pamela Behm was second with a 41:54.
