Now in its 18th year, the Dowagiac Elks Junior Golf Program recently wrapped up another successful season.

A total of 53 golfers participated in this year’s program, which ended with the annual tournament and awards luncheon where each participant received a framed certificate and medals for the age group winners.

“I want to congratulate all the golfers who participated and thank all the volunteers who helped make this year’s program a success,” Dick Morey, program director said. “A special thank you to Craig McCoy, Jim Sullivan, Robbie Canfield, Lynne Lawrence and Ray Klomes.”

Members of the Dowagiac golf team also helped throughout the summer and all of them got their start in the Elks Junior Golf Program, according
to Morey.

The Junior Golf Program was founded by former Dowagiac mayor Dr. James Burke and Audrey Atkinson. It is open to boys and girls 8 to 14 years of age.

Golfers comes to the Elks Golf Club each Monday to learn basic golf shots, rules, etiquette and then take what they learn out on the course.

Plans are already under way for the 2017 season. Registration information will be released in the spring.
