Williams, Peterson win Diamond Lake Trialthon

Connor Williams of South Bend and Connie Peterson of Harrisonburg, Virginia captured the men’s and women’s overall titles at the 2016 Diamond Lake Triathlon July 2.

The triathlon is in memory of Alex Stscherban, who collapsed after competing in a triathlon in South Haven in 2012.

The first Diamond Lake Triathlon was July 6, 2013, and drew 134 participants.

The course includes a 500-yard swim, 12-mile bike ride and 3.3-mile run.

The triathlon, which had 122 runners and nine teams participate, moved to Park Shore Marina for the start and finish this year.

Joe Fazzini, a Diamond Lake resident and cancer survivor, took over as director of the triathlon, which raises money to help offset medical expenses for Stscherban.
