Niles takes first game from Edwardsburg

The Niles All-Stars blanked Edwardsburg 16-0 in five innings of the opening game of the Michigan District 15 Senior Baseball All-Star Tournament at Thomas Stadium Tuesday night.

Niles will travel to Edwardsburg for a 6 p.m. game Thursday. If Niles wins the district championship, they advance to South Portage Little League to play July 13.

If Edwardsburg wins, a third and deciding game will be played at Thomas Stadium Saturday.

A time will be determined following Thursday’s game if necessary.

Darcile Cross pitched a complete game one-hitter with eight strike outs and four walks for Niles.

The all-stars banged out 11 hits and capitalized on four Edwardsburg errors.

Nate Pierce was 3-for-3 with four runs scored, an RBI and five stolen bases.

Jerod Glenn went 3-for-4 with an RBI and scored three runs. Damian Downham was 2-for-4 with a pair of RBIs, while Cross helped his own cause with a two-run double.

Edwardsburg’s lone hit was collected by Garrett Oburt.

Zach Appleberry suffered the loss.
