Colyne Ruth Sorsby, 80, of Cassopolis, died peacefully Saturday evening, May 21, 2016, in her residence in the peace and comfort of her family.

Colyne was born June 11, 1935, in Wayside, Kansas to Henry and Julia (Williams) Danzy, the ninth of 11 children. She married Earl Lee Sorsby Nov. 25, 1954, in Cassopolis, Michigan. After fifty seven years of marriage, he preceded her in death Dec. 9, 2011. She was also preceded by her parents; two sisters, Bonnie MacIntosh, Lesester Mitchem; and four brothers, Robert Danzy, Howard Danzy, Ebenezer Danzy and Leroy Danzy.

Colyne was a life member of the Auxiliary of the Lt. William E. Lozier VFW Post 10704 of Cassopolis. She volunteered to help care for many in the community, serving as a friend and care taker for many people. She also helped staff the Gift Shop of the Cass County Medical Care Facility. Colyne was one of the oldest members of Chain Lake Missionary Baptist Church of Cassopolis, having joined when she was 13 years old. She served on the Board of Directors of Midwest Energy and was a Board Member of Helping Hands in Cassopolis. Colyne retired from the State of Michigan Secretary of State Drivers License Bureau. She was the best cook ever. She loved her trips to the casino (The Club).

Colyne will be greatly missed by family and friends. Left to honor her and remember her love are five daughters, Betty Hall of Memphis, Tennessee, Jacqueline (Floyd) Foston of Cassopolis, Jenice (Samuel) Cloud of Cassopolis, Jenny (Douglas) Davidson of Kalamazoo, Janell (Frederick) Brown of Cassopolis; one son, Earl (Andrea) Sorsby, Jr. of Atlanta, Georgia; 26 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; two great-great-granddaughters; two sisters, Jessie Bell of Detroit, Julia Bell of Cassopolis; two brothers, Alvernon Danzy of Cassopolis, Bretheo Danzy of Cassopolis; and a host of nieces, nephews and chosen children.

Family and friends will gather Saturday, May 28, 2016, from 3 p.m. until 5 p.m. for a time of sharing memories and telling stories in Connelly Chapel Wagner Family Funerals, 202 N. Broadway St., Cassopolis.

The family prefers donations be made in Colyne’s memory to Relay for Life of Cass County, 1400 West Milham Avenue, Portage, Michigan 49024.
