Dr. Chantel Spring Castleman, 44, passed away on Dec. 24, 2015 after a two and a half year battle against Ovarian Cancer. She was born April 9, 1971, to Michael and late Penny (Kistler) Lightner.

On June 5, 2004, Chantel married Eric Castleman, who survives. She is also survived by two children, Cameron and Alina; sister, Kelley Lightner; nephews, Connor Marwede and Shane Hite; and nieces, Annalise Marwede, Nicole Armour and Kristy Basty.
Chantel attended Michigan State University before receiving her Doctorate degree in Optometry from the Michigan College of Optometry at Ferris State University. She practiced most recently in Elkhart at the Abbott Eye Clinic. In her spare time, she enjoyed being with her family, traveling, playing cards, knitting, reading and writing fictional stories.
The family would like to thank the staff at Michiana Hematology Oncology for the excellent care she received while fighting the disease.
Visitation will be from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 2, at the McGann Hay, Granger Chapel, 13260 SR 23. Enter off Cherry Road.
