Lee Spencer, 79, of Niles, passed away peacefully at his home, with his family by his side, on Sunday, Nov. 15, 2015.
Lee was born on April 17, 1936 to the late Leroy “Roy” and Vera (Eagley) Spencer in Niles.
After graduating from Buchanan High School, Lee joined the United States Air Force. He then served as a patrol officer for the Niles City Police. While working full time Lee earned his Associate’s Degree from Lake Michigan College and later attended Western Michigan University and Michigan State University. He later became the Chief of Police for Howard Township Police Department and the Chief of Police for Hartford Police Department. After 20 years of dedicated service Lee left law enforcement to work in security for General Motors.
Lee’s greatest passion was his grandchildren. He would even forego fishing and tending to his amazing garden to spend time with them.
Lee was preceded in death by his father, Leroy “Roy” Spencer and mother, Vera Desonia.
He is survived by his dedicated and loving wife of 58 years, Shirley Spencer; sons, Greg Spencer of Niles and Scott (Kathy) Spencer of Milford, Michigan; daughter, Cindy (Robert) Frizzell of Niles; grandchildren Sarah Frizzell, Michael Spencer, Jason (Ashley) Frizzell, Melisa Spencer, David (Crystal) Frizzell, Cari Spencer, and Haley Spencer; and great grandchildren, McKenzy, Brady, Kaleb, Jocelyn, Dominic, Tyler and Chloe.
A time of visitation will be held on Wednesday, Nov. 18, 2015, at Brown Funeral Home from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. Funeral services to honor Lee’s life will be held Thursday, Nov. 19, 2015, at Brown Funeral Home at 11 a.m.
