Willie Booker, age 84, of Cassopolis, passed away suddenly, Monday, Oct. 26, 2015, in Borgess Lee Memorial Hospital in Dowagiac.

He was born May 20, 1931, in Rolling Fork, Mississippi to Nelse Booker and Cora Mae (Buggs) Beard. He married Deatrice Jackson Nov. 13, 1967 in Chicago, Illinois. She survives. Willie was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, DeWitt Casey; and one step-son, Anthony Crumb.

Willie was honored Oct. 13, 2015, by the Cassopolis Village Council for his twelve years of dedicated service as Crossing Guard at Sam Adams Middle School in Cassopolis. He had also served two terms as a Trustee for the Village and had been a Village Police Auxiliary. Willie had worked at the Dowagiac Public Library. He was passionate about whatever he did, including singing in church. Willie loved church and his wife, whom he affectionately called “Bea.” He had quite a sweet tooth. He enjoyed politics and watching the news throughout the day. Willie believed in bringing up his family according to the Bible.

Willie will be greatly missed by family and friends. He is survived by his wife of more than 47 years, Deatrice (Jackson) Booker of Cassopolis; daughters, Dornzella (Raphael) Beecham, Nadine Booker, Corine (Tyron) Jackson, Stephanie Booker, Willa Booker, all of Chicago, Vera Jackson of Cassopolis, Gayla Crumb of Atlanta, Georgia, LaMeasia Booker of Atlanta, Georgia, Jacqueline Booker of Cassopolis; son, O’Dell Crumb of Cassopolis; 46 grandchildren; 54 great grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Family and friends will gather Friday, Nov. 6, 2015, from noon until time of service at 1 p.m. (Michigan, Eastern Standard Time) in Connelly Chapel Wagner Family Funerals, 202 North Broadway Street, Cassopolis, with Apostle Christopher J. Pittman officiating. Mr. Booker will be laid to rest in Mission Hills Memorial Garden in Sumnerville, Michigan.
