St. Joe offers Halloween activities and more

ST. JOSEPH, Mich. — Halloween festivities in downtown St. Joseph, start on Oct. 28 when The Inn at Harbor Shores will celebrate the Halloween season by featuring several events including an artist pumpkin carving contest, spooky storytelling and a costume ball.

Tricks and treats fun continues in this Lake Michigan community at the Silver Beach Carousel, 333 Broad St. The haunted “Scare”ousel will delight all ages with its eerie decorations, spooky music and ghost town electric train diorama.

Family Fun Night, Oct. 29, will star John Dudley performing magician tricks from 4 to 8:30 p.m.  Anyone coming to the carousel in costume Oct. 29 also will be treated to one free ride. Visit silverbeachcarousel.com for more information.

On Oct. 30, guests will have a “night to dis-member” with the Zombie Prom at 221 Restaurant & Cocktail House, 221 Main St. This spirited event includes specialty drinks, dancing at 10 p.m. and a Zombie Prom King and Queen crowned at midnight. Then on Oct. 31, pet owners can enter their best friends in the FuzzyButz “Howl-o-ween” Costume Contest at this pet food bakery and boutique located at 306 State St. All pooches that enter will receive a complimentary treat and their owners can take advantage of a 15 percent store discount.

Judging is from 1 to 3 p.m. and offers two categories: child and adult. There are three prizes for each category. For more contest information call FuzzyButz at (269) 983-9663.

Later that day, guests will enjoy trick-or-treating downtown from 4:30 to 6 p.m., sponsored by Holt Bosse. Youth are encouraged to wear their costumes and visit participating businesses. The first 500 youth to stop by the Welcome Center, 301 State St., will receive a trick-or-treat bag from Holt Bosse.

City-wide trick-or-treating will immediately follow from 6 to 7:30 p.m.
