Mark Guernsey, 54, of Niles, passed away at home on Monday, Sept. 1, 2015, with his family by his side, following a courageous battle with cancer.

He was born on Nov. 10, 1960, to Max and Shirley (Crosby) Guernsey in Gladwin, Michigan. Mark spent his growing up years in Beaverton.

Mark was an electrician by trade and owned and operated Guernsey Electric for over 20 years. On Valentine’s Day in 1996, Mark wed Tremell Beaty at a ceremony in New Orleans, Louisiana.

Mark enjoyed old cars, especially Ford Thunderbirds and Corvettes, John Deere tractors, farming, living in the country and family hayrides. He also loved listening to the Rolling Stones and traveling across the United States. He was a faithful member of Niles Philadelphia Seventh-day Adventist Church and spent many hours studying his bible and singing hymns.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Tremell (Beaty) Guernsey; brother, Steven Guernsey; nephew, Christopher Harrell; mother-in-law, Hortense Nalls and a step-granddaughter, Da’Jauna Davis.

Mark is survived by his parents Max and Shirley Guernsey of Beaverton, Michigan; daughter, Lynzie (Demarco) Thompson of Niles; step-children, Leonard Beaty, Virsarah Davis of South Bend, Yaearla Davis (Kevin Reed) of Niles, Jowana (Will) Howell of Atlanta, Georgia, three grandchildren; Londyn, Demarco and Secret; nine step-grandchildren, brother, Gordon (Tana) Guernsey of Lakeville, Indiana, sisters; Elaine Guernsey of Buchanan, Dottie Prince of Berrien Springs and Marilyn (Thomas) Harrell of Beaverton, Michigan, as well as a host of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, Sept. 8, 2015, at 1 p.m. at the Niles Westside Seventh-day Adventist Church at 1105 Grant Street in Niles with visitation beginning at 11 a.m.
